CHAMPIONS

Athletics is, in many ways, the embodiment of the Olympic motto, “Citius, Altius, Fortius”, meaning faster, higher, stronger.

Athletics is about running faster, jumping higher and throwing further than your competitors. The ancient Games at Olympia began simply with foot races, only occasionally complicated by dressing the runners in infantry armour or making them carry soldiers’ shields. Today, athletics remains one of the most popular Olympic sports. From the 100m dash to the 42.195km marathon, from the hammer throw to the high jump, it contains many of the Olympic Games’ blue-ribbon events and many of the highest-profile competitors.

Currently, the most famous athlete is the sprinter Usain Bolt.

Athletics is a competitive activities such as sports and it requires agility, stamina, and skills. To be an Athlete, you need to exert a lot of effort and determination to be able to achieve a goal, and that goal is to be the champion or to be the best in one’s chosen field of sport. Most athletes are training for the most coveted Olympic games. To be a part of the said competition; a lot of time spent in crucial trainings and competition after another are just some of the requirements that an athlete must go through. However, all of those are nothing, when at the end of the day, the athlete gets to go home with their priced Medals and Trophies. Being a legend in athletics far much surpasses any other field, be it academics, art or just looks. This is because athletics is fun, it is amazing and just feels great crossing the finish line in a few seconds and knowing that history has been written!

When Usain Bolt sprinted to glory in the hundred meter race, I could help but gasp in amazement how rapid a human can place one foot in front of the other. Being a legend through athletics definitely places one in a space in history where no other proclaimed ‘Champions’ reach.

Athletics for me is the ultimate realisation of my grandfather’s advice: Get out of your own way. Get out of the mindset that you are too tired, too slow, not determined enough into a place where you are focused and set on achieving your goals. In many ways it is a sport that has as much to do with the mind than with the body.

He holds the world record for the 100 metres, the 200 metres and, along with his teammates, the 4×100 metres relay. He also holds the Olympic record for all three of these races. At the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, Bolt became the first man to win three sprinting events at a single Olympics since Carl Lewis in 1984, and the first man to set world records in all three at a single Olympics. In 2009 he became the first man to hold the 100 and 200 m world and Olympic titles at the same time.

At the 2009 World Championships in August, Bolt improved his world record with a time of 9.58 s to win his first World Championship gold medal, the Jamaican once again produced world record-breaking form in the 200 metres final. He broke his own record by 0.11 seconds, finishing with a time of 19.19 seconds. He won the 200 m race by the biggest margin in World Championships history.

Bolt expresses a love for dancing and his character is frequently described as laid-back and relaxed.
